Sumit Nagal, an Indian tennis player, is the sixth Indian to win a Junior Grand Slam.
Nagal gained recognition by facing Roger Federer in the 2019 US Open.
Initially interested in cricket, Nagal's father encouraged him to pursue tennis.
Impressed by his skills, Nagal's school coach recommended professional training for him.
At 7, Nagal moved to Delhi and started training at the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) Tennis Academy.
Nagal's talent shone at the DDA Academy, where he won his first tournament at 8.
At age 10, Nagal was selected for 'Mission 2018,' a talent hunt led by Mahesh Bhupathi and other players.
Bhupathi sponsored Nagal's training in Canada with Bobby Mahal after selecting him.
Moving to Germany in 2014, Nagal joined the Schuettler Waske Tennis University.
In 2015, he won the Boys' Doubles title at Wimbledon with Lý Hoàng Nam.
Nagal turned professional in 2015 and debuted in the Davis Cup for India in 2016.
However, he was removed from the Davis Cup squad in 2017 due to disciplinary reasons.
In 2019, Nagal made his Grand Slam debut against Roger Federer at the US Open.
Although he lost, Nagal made history by winning a set against Federer, the first Indian to do so.
On September 2, 2020, Nagal advanced to the second round of the US Open by defeating Bradley Klahn.
