Soumya Tiwari is an Indian cricketer.
She plays for the Indian women’s U-19 team as a batting all-rounder.
Soumya was part of the winning Indian U-19 women’s squad in the Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup 2023.
She grew up in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, in a middle-class family.
Her father used to play local division cricket in his younger days.
Soumya started playing cricket with makeshift equipment at a young age.
She watched cricket on television with her sister while growing up in Old Bhopal.
Her interest led to playing mohalla cricket with boys in her neighborhood using a plastic bat.
When local boys refused to include her in their teams, Soumya's father helped her pursue cricket further.
Her family later moved, allowing her to join Arera Cricket Academy at 11 years old.
Initially refused training, she convinced the coach to teach her both bowling and batting.
She showcased her skills in an inter-club match organized by the academy.
State selectors noticed her talent at the academy when she was 13 and picked her for the Madhya Pradesh women's team.
She then played for the Madhya Pradesh U19 women’s team and captained the U-16 team.
In 2020-2021, Soumya played for Madhya Pradesh Women in the Senior Challenger tournament.
She also represented Madhya Pradesh U19 Women’s team in the T20 domestic tournament, winning it in 2022.
Soumya was part of India A women’s squad for the 2022 quadrangular series.
She became the vice-captain of the Indian U19 squad for the Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup.
During the World Cup, she scored significant runs in matches against Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and England.
In the final match against England, Soumya scored the winning runs for India in a partnership with Gongadi Trisha.
