Sift Kaur Samra is an accomplished Indian sports shooter who gained recognition in September 2023 for setting world and Asian records in the Women’s 50-metre rifle 3P event at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
She was introduced to shooting by her cousin, Sekhon, a shotgun shooter, at the age of nine, and began practicing 10-metre rifle events in 2016-17.
Her parents, hailing from an agricultural background, are involved in the rice shelling business.
In December 2019, Sift Kaur Samra excelled at the National Shooting Championships in Bhopal, winning gold, three silver, and one bronze medal.
She added to her achievements by securing a bronze medal at the Khelo Indian Shooting Championships in Assam in 2020.
In June 2022, she clinched a gold medal at the Junior World Cup Shooting Championships in Suhl, Germany.
The talented shooter continued her success in 2022 by winning gold at the National Games and securing a bronze at her first ISSF World Cup appearance in the 50m rifle 3P event.
She further demonstrated her prowess by winning gold in the Women’s 50-metre rifle 3P individual event at the 2022 Asian Games, alongside a silver in the team event.
Sift Kaur Samra's accomplishments in 2022 also include winning gold at the 65th National Shooting Championships in Kerala and the 36th National Shooting Championships in Gujarat.
Despite clearing the NEET examination in 2022, she decided to pursue her passion for shooting and switched her course to Bachelor of Physical Education and Sports at GNDU in Amritsar.
In August 2023, she secured a gold medal at the 31st World University Games in Chengdu.
In the same month, she shattered the world record in the Women’s 50-metre rifle 3P event with a total score of 469.6 points at the Asian Games, beating the previous record holder by 2.6 points.
