Siddaramaiah's childhood took place in poverty in a small village in Mysore, Karnataka.
Despite starting school late, he excelled in the state board examination.
In 1977, Siddaramaiah initiated his political journey by joining the Bharatiya Lok Dal.
He emerged victorious in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections on nine occasions.
Siddaramaiah has presented the Karnataka state budget 13 times as a finance minister.
Tragically, Siddaramaiah's elder son, Rakesh, passed away in July 2016.
