He is the younger sibling of Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
Born into a Zamindar Muslim family called Numberdars.
His directorial debut, "Mister, Come Tomorrow (Miyan Kal Aana)" (2015), was shown at the Cannes International Film Festival 2015 in the Short Film Corner category.
His film "Miyan Kal Aana" (2015) has won 14 International awards and received 34 nominations, leading him to travel to over 35 countries for film festivals.
Following his debut, he directed films like "Bole Chudiyan," "Zero Kilometer," "Chalta Purza," "Gehu, Ganna aur Gun," and "You Are Not My Husband."
Shamas produced the Bollywood film "Manto" (2018) and subsequently worked on films such as "Roam Rome Mein" (2019) and "No Lands Man" (2021).
