Shai comes from a family passionate about sports: his father played club cricket, and his mother excelled in netball and cricket.
At 17, Shai received a life-changing opportunity with a 2-year scholarship from St. Bede’s School of Sussex to develop his cricket skills.
Upon joining Bede’s 1st XI cricket team, Shai was appointed captain by coach Alan Wells.
Shai scored his first ODI century in 2016, against Zimbabwe, where he made 102 runs in a match that ended in a tie, earning him the Man of the Match award.
Shai became a cricket sensation overnight in 2017 after scoring 147 and 118 not out in the Leeds Test against England, leading West Indies to a historic victory by 5 wickets.
