He has served in ministerial roles within Karnataka's state governments. He is recognized for his efforts to combat superstitions in Hindu society.
After finishing his schooling, he ventured into both the sugar processing industry and politics. He began his political career in 1992 while serving as a director at the Belagavi District Central Cooperative Bank.
Having won MLC elections twice from 1998 to 2008 and MLA elections four times from 2008 to 2023, he has also held ministerial positions under various chief ministers. In 2021, he faced his first electoral defeat in the Lok Sabha by-election.
