Some Lesser Known Facts

Samaresh Majumdar was an acclaimed Indian novelist known for his Bengali books.
He gained fame for writing a political quartet, the Animesh Series, with books such as Uttoradhikar, Kalbela, and Kalpurush, from 1979 to 1989.
Samaresh grew up in a Hindu Bengali family in West Bengal, spending his early years in the tea gardens of Duars in Jalpaiguri.
Initially working in the Income Tax Department of West Bengal, he later left to pursue writing.
In 1967, he wrote an article for the Bengali magazine Desh, which was later adapted into a play.
Samaresh was involved in acting, directing, and scriptwriting for plays during his college days.
His novel Dour was published in Desh in 1976.
He wrote three books in the Amritesh series and created the character Arjun, appearing in over thirty books by 2023.
The fourth book in the Amritesh series, Mousholkal, was released in 2013.
The book Buno Haansh was adapted into a Bengali film in 2014.
His character Dipaboli from Saatkahon became popular with readers.
By 2023, Samaresh authored more than 200 novels in Bengali, including Lokkhir Pachali and Haramir Hatbaksho.
On 8 May 2023, Samaresh Majumdar passed away in Apollo Hospital, Kolkata, after battling bulbar palsy and COPD complications.
