Some Lesser Known Facts

Ritu Negi was the captain of the Indian Women’s Kabaddi team that earned the gold medal at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
She discovered her interest in Kabaddi while watching senior girls play it during a school event.
Ritu secured a spot at the State Hostel Bilaspur during her 10th grade at Sharog.
After competing successfully in a selection trial at the Sports Authority of India in Bilaspur, she dedicated nine years to training there.
Ritu won two Gold medals in the Junior Nationals and five Bronze medals in the senior nationals for Himachal Pradesh.
She was appointed captain of the Indian Junior team in 2011, leading them to victory in a Gold medal win.
Spotting her skills during an A-Grade Kabaddi tournament, senior coaches selected her for the South Central Railway women’s Kabaddi team where she also began working.
Ritu Negi joined Indian Railways’ South Central department in 2014.
She excelled in Kabaddi for the South Central Railway team and secured a spot in the Senior Nationals Indian Railway Women’s Kabaddi Team.
Despite initially missing the cut for the 2017 Asian Championship, Ritu Negi later qualified for the Indian team in 2018 and was appointed team captain in 2022.
Haryana government awarded her a cash prize of Rs. 3 Crores in October 2023 for her medal-winning performance at the 2022 Asian Games.
In December 2023, Ritu Negi was honored as the first woman Kabaddi player from Himachal Pradesh to receive the Arjuna Award.
