Rahul Narwekar is an Indian politician and advocate affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party, serving as the current speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.
He initiated his political journey as a Shiv Sena party member, progressing to become the spokesperson of the party's youth wing. However, he departed from the party when denied a ticket for the 2014 Lok Sabha election.
In 2014, he joined the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and ran for the Maval constituency in the Lok Sabha elections, but was defeated by Shrirang Appa Barne of the Shiv Sena.
In 2019, Rahul Narwekar switched to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and became an MLA representing the Colaba constituency.
On July 3, 2022, Rahul Narwekar was elected as the Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly with 164 votes, surpassing Shiv Sena candidate Rajan Salvi who received 107 votes.
At the age of 44, he became the second-youngest person to hold the position of a state speaker in India, with Shivraj Patil being the youngest at the age of 42.
