Om Shivpuri was a well-known Indian actor in Bollywood, appearing in over 150 Hindi films.
He came from a Kashmiri Pandit family and began working at All India Radio in Jaipur at a young age.
While at All India Radio, he met Sudha Shivpuri, whom he later married.
He earned a scholarship to attend the National School of Drama in Delhi.
In 1964, he became the first chief of the National School of Drama Repertory Company.
In 1965, he directed Girish Karnad's play "Tuglaq" at the National School of Drama.
His role in Gulzar's "Koshish" (1972) was pivotal in his Bollywood career.
He declined the role of Pran in the movie "Heer Raanjha" (1970).
He appeared in thirty-one films with Rajesh Khanna as the lead.
A fallout with Basu Bhattacharya led to the cancellation of the film "Aadhe Adhure" that Om Shivpuri was set to direct.
His daughter Ritu Shivpuri starred in "Aankhen" (1993) alongside Govinda and Chunky Pandey.
