Mukesh Singh is an IPS officer of the 1996 batch belonging to the AGMUT cadre.
He has received several gallantry awards for his participation in counter-terrorist operations in Jammu & Kashmir.
After passing the UPSC civil services exam, Singh joined the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVNPA) in Hyderabad, Telangana.
On September 4, 1996, he completed his training at SVPNPA and was allocated to the AGMUT.
Singh served as an SP in Pulwama during the insurgency in Jammu & Kashmir, garnering recognition for supporting Indian forces in anti-terror operations.
At NIA, he disrupted the foreign funding received by separatists to counter separatist activities in Kashmir.
As the IGP of NIA in 2018, Singh participated in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Fit India Challenge.
During his tenure as the IGP of Jammu Zone, Singh led an operation resulting in the elimination of militant Tahir Ahmed Bhat.
Following Tahir's elimination, Shopian and Kishtwar in Kashmir were declared terrorism-free.
In September 2023, Mukesh Singh was appointed as the Inspector General (IG) of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) until 2027.
