Michael P. Murphy served as a lieutenant in the United States Navy SEALs.
During Operation Red Wings in Afghanistan, Murphy led SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team One (SDVT-1).
He was awarded the Medal of Honor, marking the first US Navy member to receive this honor post-Vietnam War.
Murphy spent his formative years in Patchogue, New York, having moved from Smithtown.
In school, he participated in soccer and pee-wee football.
After graduating from Patchogue-Medford High School in 1994, Murphy worked as a lifeguard during summer breaks.
His intervention in a school bully altercation earned him the nickname 'The Protector'.
Murphy opted to enlist in the US Navy rather than pursue law studies.
He successfully completed the BUD/S training and joined SDVT-1.
Murphy engaged in military operations across various locations like Jordan, Florida, Qatar, and Djibouti.
