Some Lesser Known Facts

Matt pursued his sixth-form studies in England on a one-year scholarship after competing in New Zealand.
He made his first-class cricket debut in the 2010–11 Plunket Shield against Wellington in March 2011.
Despite not being part of the initial squad for the 2015 ODI World Cup, he replaced Adam Milne during the tournament and contributed two wickets in the finals against Australia.
Matt enjoys playing golf.
In 2016, he set a record with Jimmy Neesham for the highest ninth-wicket partnership in an ODI for New Zealand, accumulating 84 runs against India.
He recorded his first ten-wicket haul in county cricket in April 2018, taking 12 wickets for 73 runs against Durham.
In February 2017, he was signed by Kings XI Punjab for Rs. 50 Lakhs after a previous stint with Chennai Super Kings where he did not play.
He earned the man of the match award for taking 3 wickets for 37 runs against India in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup semifinal.
Matt was part of the New Zealand squad that won the World Test Championship title in 2021.

He made headlines for taking five wickets against India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 group stage match, surpassing Richard Hadlee’s record to become New Zealand’s eighth-highest wicket-taker in ODIs.
