  • 1973: Elected to the General Committee of DMK.
  • 1984: Contested the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections from the Thousand Lights constituency and lost to K.A. Krishnaswamy of AIADMK.

Some Lesser Known Facts

He was born into a prominent political family in Madras, now known as Chennai.
He was named after Joseph Stalin, the Soviet revolutionary, who passed away four days after M. K. Stalin's birth.
Stalin entered politics at a young age, campaigning for the DMK at just 14 during the 1967 Polls.
He gained media attention when arrested under MISA for protesting the Emergency during the Indira Gandhi Government.
Stalin was involved in acting and film production in the Tamil Film Industry until the early 90s.
After becoming Secretary of the Youth Wing, he helped grow it into one of the largest political youth organizations in Tamil Nadu.
He served as the first Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu from 2009 to 2011.
In 2013, party leader Karunanidhi named Stalin as the party's future heir.
Following Jayalalithaa's death in 2016, Stalin publicly accused V. K. Sasikala of being involved.
After his father's passing in August 2018, Stalin successfully petitioned the Madras High Court to allow his father's burial at Marina Beach.
