Kim Sae-ron grew up in Seoul, South Korea.
Her first role was in A Brand New Life, directed by Ounie Lecomte, a French-Korean filmmaker.
The film was based on the director's life and premiered at the Cannes Film Festival where Kim became the youngest actress invited.
In The Man From Nowhere, she played a girl whose mother was a heroin addict, and the film became the highest-grossing in South Korea in 2010.
Kim shared the Best Young Actress award at MBC Drama Awards in 2013 with three other cast members of The Queen’s Classroom.
She left a lasting impression with her role in A Girl at My Door, attended the Cannes Film Festival for its premiere, and won multiple awards for the performance.
In May 2022, she was involved in a serious car accident due to drunk driving, which affected her career.
She decided not to renew her contract with Gold Medalist and was reportedly working part-time due to financial struggles before her death.
