Kapil Sibal is an Indian politician known for holding various ministerial roles and being a Supreme Court lawyer. He recently resigned from the Indian National Congress after over 30 years.
Although he qualified for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Kapil Sibal chose to establish his law firm in 1980 instead of joining the service.
Between 1989 and 1990, he served as the Additional Solicitor General of India and has been elected President of the Supreme Court Bar Association three times.
Kapil Sibal gained recognition for his role in the 1993 impeachment proceedings of Supreme Court Justice V. Ramaswami, where he addressed Parliament.
Due to his expertise in constitutional and parliamentary studies, he was appointed to the Rajya Sabha in 1998, representing the Congress party from Bihar.
He played a pivotal part in breaking the monopoly of Doordarshan over television airwaves, paving the way for independent news and entertainment channels.
As the sole Indian Member of Parliament to visit Antarctica, Kapil Sibal holds a unique distinction.
