Her father is a former 1500m runner with multiple international medals, and her mother won an 800m silver at the Asian Games 2002, receiving the Arjuna Award.
Initially, her mother preferred Lawn Tennis over athletics due to the perceived glamour and hard work associated with sports.
As a child, she became disinterested in sports, unlike fairytales, after hearing various sports stories.
At ten, she succeeded in the 600m event, sparking her athletic journey.
In 2015, her father secured her training at the Sports Authority of India tracks in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh.
Trained by a professional coach since age 18, she has earned numerous medals at the national level in 1500m and 800m events.
Harmilan achieved gold in the 1500m event at the 2018 Federation Cup National Senior Athletics Championships.
She excelled in the 800m category at the Khelo India University Games in February 2020 and improved her score in March 2021.

Harmilan won the 800m race event with a time of 2:03.82 while Javelin Thrower Neeraj Chopra was making headlines at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Initially, her parents' advice and expectations impacted her career negatively.
Harmilan aspires to surpass her parents' achievements, aiming for the World University Games 2022, Asian Games 2022, and the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Her ultimate goal is to be the first Indian woman to secure an Athletics medal.
