He was raised by his mother after losing his father at a young age. His mother operates a women’s clothing store in Hyderabad.
In 2010, he debuted in first-class cricket for Hyderabad at 17 years old.
He was a member of the Indian team that clinched the ICC U-19 World Cup in 2012.
During the 6th season of the Indian Premier League in 2013, he played for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He remained with the team from 2013 to 2015.
In October 2017, he achieved his first triple century by scoring an unbeaten 302 runs for Andhra against Odisha in the Ranji Trophy.
He ended the 2017-2018 Ranji Trophy season as the top run-scorer with 752 runs in six matches at an impressive average of 94.
He has represented India A and made significant contributions to the team.
Before being selected for the Indian International Squad, he held the world's best first-class batting average of 59.45. The closest competitor was Australia's Steve Smith with 57.27.
