He has served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in the Karnataka Vidhan Sabha multiple times.
Khandre gained attention in May 2023 for winning the Karnataka state assembly elections.
His political career started when he joined the Indian National Congress and the Congress Seva Dal.
He underwent training under the Congress Seva Dal leadership.
His father played a significant role in the Co-operative Movement in Madra.
In 2004, Khandre lost the state assembly elections to Prakash Khandre of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
He defeated Prakash in the 2008 Vidhan Sabha elections by 20,971 votes.
