Deepender Singh Hooda's great-grandfather, Choudhary Matu Ram Hooda, collaborated with Mahatma Gandhi in the independence movement.
In 1985, Choudhary Matu Ram played a vital role in the formation of the Indian National Congress.
Deepender's grandfather, Ranbir Singh Hooda, was the first and second Lok Sabha representative from Rohtak, Haryana.
Ranbir Singh Hooda was also a member of the Rajya Sabha and actively involved in serving undivided Punjab and present-day Haryana.
During his undergraduate studies at Maharshi Dayanand University in Rohtak, Haryana, Deepender secured the second-highest position.
While pursuing his master's at Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, he became the Leader-in-Residence of Poling Chair of Business and Government.
He was elected as the president of the Asian Students Association at the same university.
Deepender organized an Asian Business Conference at Harvard University and led a team of Asian students from top U.S. business schools.
