Dane started playing cricket with boys in primary school and later joined an all-female team in high school.
When she came out as a lesbian, her initially upset family later supported and accepted her after some time.
Dane turned professional at fifteen, playing for Northerns Under-19 and Highveld Women teams.
Selected for South Africa Under-19, she became captain at sixteen.
