Conrad comes from a politically influential family - his father was the Chief Minister of Meghalaya and Speaker of Lok Sabha.
He started in politics by managing his father's campaigns for the NCP in the 1990s.
At 30, he became Meghalaya's youngest Finance Minister in 2008.
Though he lost the 2013 Assembly Elections, he won the 16th Lok Sabha bye-election in 2016 after his father's passing.
Conrad holds leadership positions in various organizations, including the Meghalaya Cricket Association.
