Colin is the son of former Zimbabwean cricketer ‘Laurence Leonard de Grandhomme.’
His great-uncle ‘Bunny de Grandhomme,’ also known as ‘Hilary Laurence de Grandhomme,' played for the ‘Rhodesia’ cricket team, now known as Zimbabwe.
He began his cricket career playing for the ‘Manicaland’ team.
In 2003 and 2004, he represented the ‘Zimbabwe’ team in the ‘Under-19 Cricket World Cup.’
His first-class debut was in 2005 for ‘Zimbabwe A’ against ‘Kenya’ in Harare, Zimbabwe.
After leaving Zimbabwe in 2006, he joined the ‘Auckland’ cricket team.
He was selected in 2009 for the ‘New Zealand Emerging Players’ team for Australia’s quadrangular tournament.
