Cheran acted in dramas during his school days.
He began his career as an assistant director under K. S. Ravikumar for the film ‘Puriyadha Pudhir.’
Cheran has worked as an assistant/associate director for around eleven movies.
In 1997, he wrote and directed his first Tamil film ‘Bharathi Kannamma,’ which earned critical acclaim and was later remade in Kannada as ‘Usire’ (2001).
Cheran transitioned into an actor-director with the Tamil movie “Porkkaalam” and gained fame with the film “Autograph” in 2004.
He produced several successful Tamil films like ‘Autograph’ (2004), ‘Azhagai Irukkirai Bayamai Irukkirathu’ (2006), and others.
Cheran established ‘Cheran Noolagam,’ a publishing house where he released the Tamil novel ‘Porum Valiyum(War & Pain).’
He founded ‘C2H’ (Cinema2Home) to combat copyright infringement in Tamil Cinema.
Cheran participated as a contestant in Bigg Boss (Tamil) Season 3 in 2019.
