Some Lesser Known Facts

Arjun Ram Meghwal grew up weaving with his family in Kismidesar Village in Bikaner.
He completed his primary education at a local government school.
Meghwal got married at a young age but continued his studies and later started preparing for competitive exams.
He landed a job as a telephone operator while studying for exams.
After a failed first attempt, he passed the RAS exams in 1982 on his second try.
In 1994, Meghwal became Officer on Special Duty to the Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan.
He won elections for the post of General Secretary of Telephone Traffic and later became the State President of Rajasthan Udhyog Seva Parishad.
Meghwal became an IAS officer in 1999 after serving in various roles in the state service.
As an IAS officer, he served as the District Magistrate of Churu, Rajasthan.
In 2009, Meghwal left the administrative service to join politics with the BJP.
As an MP, he would ride a bicycle to Parliament in traditional Rajasthani attire.
In 2013, he introduced a bill against the decriminalization of gay sex.
In 2014, Meghwal exposed alleged illegal land deals by Robert Vadra in Bikaner.
He joined PM Narendra Modi's Council of Ministers in 2016.
In 2019, his nomination for the Lok Sabha elections faced resistance from within the BJP.
As Minister of Culture, he advocated for the preservation of the Mangarh hillock in Rajasthan.
Meghwal is also known for singing spiritual bhajans at public events.
