Amol Muzumdar is a former Indian cricketer and current coach.
Despite scoring over 10,000 runs in domestic cricket, he never played for the Indian national team.
His interest in cricket was sparked by his father and uncles, who played amateur cricket.
In 1987-88, he started playing for Shardashram Vidyamandir International School team.
During his Ranji debut against Haryana, he scored 260 runs, setting a debut score record.
Leading Mumbai, he secured 7 Ranji titles during his captaincy.
In 1994, Amol served as the vice-captain for India Under-19.
He played alongside Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly in the India A team in 1994-95.
Starting from 2009, he played for Assam until 2011.
Afterwards, from 2011 to 2013, he played for Andhra Pradesh.
Amol retired from all forms of cricket in October 2014.
Before his retirement, he held the record for the highest run-scorer in a domestic season.
In 2013, there were rumors he might play for the Netherlands national team.
However, he was appointed as the batting coach for the Netherlands in October 2013.
From 2018 to 2021, he served as the batting coach for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.
During the South African tour of India in September 2019, he coached the South African national team in batting.
He became the head coach of the Mumbai team in June 2021 and the Indian women’s team in October 2023.
Amol has faced criticism for not being selected for the Indian team despite his performances.
Considering retirement in 2002, he continued playing for another decade.
He has also appeared as a guest on cricket discussion shows and worked as a commentator in various leagues.
