Alka Ajith grew up in a middle-class family in Thalassery.
In 2000, she gave her first public performance, singing the Hindi song 'Soldier ... Soldier...' at the event.
She trained in singing for around seven years under musician Shyamala Venkateswaran.
In 2003, her name was entered in the Limca Book of World Records.
Alka started her singing training from a very young age with her father, who she considers her first guru.
She relocated to Chennai from Kerala with her family in 2009.
Alka is skilled in playing both the guitar and sitar.
She has been a guest on the reality TV singing shows Airtel Super Singer 3 and Airtel Super Singer Junior 4.
