Alamgir Tareen, born in 1961, was a successful Pakistani businessman and owner of the Multan Sultans. He tragically passed away in July 2023 by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
During the 1990s, Alamgir Tareen joined his father's company, Shamin & Company Private Limited, which was a major bottle manufacturer for Pepsico in Multan, Pakistan. He eventually rose to become the Managing Director of the company.
Alamgir Tareen was known for operating the largest water purification plant in Pakistan.
In 2018, he teamed up with his nephew Ali Khan Tareen to purchase the Multan Sultans franchise in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for $6.35 million via the Multan Consortium.
By 2021, Alamgir Tareen had acquired full ownership of the Multan Sultans after buying out Ali's share. The team achieved victory in the sixth season of the PSL in the same year.
One of Alamgir Tareen's key contributions to the Multan Sultans was his innovative use of a data-driven approach.
Tragically, Alamgir Tareen passed away on July 6, 2023, due to a self-inflicted gunshot at his home in Gulberg, Lahore.
