Markram attended Cornwall Hill College (CHC) in Pretoria for high school.
In 2012, he graduated from Pretoria Boys High School.
Markram received his first cricket kit at the age of two.
Besides cricket, he played rugby and soccer while studying in school.
He played indoor cricket and club cricket for the Villagers cricket team in Irene during his school years.
In high school, Markram shifted his focus to cricket from rugby.
Cricket coach Bloemink at Cornwall Hill College (CHC) helped develop Markram's skills.
In 2007, Markram played for the Northerns U13 Standard Bank team.
He started team cricket in 2010 while at Pretoria Boys High School.
After graduating in 2012, he spent almost ten months at the Tuks Cricket Academy.
During his time at Tuks, Markram captained the Tuks 2 Premier League side.
Markram played his first First-Class match for the Northerns team in October 2014.
He led the South African team to victory in the Under-19 World Cup in 2014.
Markram was the leading run-scorer in the 2014 Under-19 World Cup.
In 2016, he played as a club professional for Walkden in the Bolton Cricket League.
Markram captained the South Africa A cricket team in August 2017.
In February 2018, he became the captain of the South African ODI team.
Markram joined the Paarl Rocks team in the first Mzansi Super League T20 competition in 2018.
He joined Hampshire County Cricket Club in 2019.
