K. G. George was an influential Indian filmmaker in the Malayalam film industry and received the prestigious J. C. Daniel Award.
During college, he worked as a painter to support himself.
His career began as an assistant director on the film 'Maya' (1972), working with director Ramu Kariat.
In 1974, he wrote the screenplay for 'Nellu' and served as an associate director for the film.
His directorial debut, 'Swapnadanam' (1975), was both a commercial and critical success, establishing his presence in the New Indian Cinema Movement.
In the 1980s, he was recognized as a 'via media director' alongside prominent filmmakers Padmarajan, Bharathan, and Mohan.
In 1978, he directed and wrote the screenplay for 'Iniyaval Urangatte.'
His film 'Yavanika' (1982) utilized a unique cinema within cinema technique, where he handled directing, screenplay, and story writing.
'Flashback' (1983) was based on the life of actress Shobha and earned acclaim post-release despite initial criticism.
'Panchavadi Palam' (1984) was the first Malayalam film to satirize the political landscape of Kerala, based on a story by Veloor Krishnankutty.
In the same year, K. G. George also appeared in 'Adaminte Vaariyellu.'
