Julian Sands (1958-2023) was a celebrated English actor known for his role as George Emerson in A Room with a View (1985). He starred in movies like The Killing Fields (1984), Warlock (1989), and Arachnophobia (1990).
Sands spent his early years in Adel, Yorkshire with his brothers before moving to Gargrave with his mother after his parents' separation.
In his childhood, he enjoyed outdoor activities in Yorkshire Dales and Lake District, along with visits to museums and galleries with his mother.
At age eight, Sands became interested in acting after watching Richard III (1955) featuring Laurence Olivier.
His brothers nicknamed him 'Zulu' after he watched Zulu (1964) multiple times.
Sands started acting in village plays at 11 and received a scholarship to Lord Wandsworth College at 13.
He began his acting career with the Forum Theatre Company, later appearing in The Killing Fields (1984) and A Room with a View (1985).
Sands moved to Los Angeles in the '90s, starring in films such as Arachnophobia (1990) and Boxing Helena (1993).
In 2019, Sands appeared in an episode of 'Into the Dark' and performed a one-man show on Harold Pinter at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2011.
