Born into a wealthy Punjabi Zamindar Family, Jagjit Kaur had a keen interest in movies and music from a young age.
Khayyam first noticed Jagjit Kaur's singing prowess during a music concert where she performed a classical piece.
Jagjit Kaur and Khayyam's marriage was among the first inter-communal marriages in the film industry.
