Tahir was born in Lahore, Pakistan and learned cricket as he grew up.
He started working at Lahore’s ‘Pace shopping mall’ at the age of 16 to support his family financially.
Selected during trials for Pakistan U-19 team, he later played for Pakistan A on tours.
Competition from other spin bowlers kept him from the national team.
He moved to England for county cricket, but his stint was short-lived.
He then went to South Africa, where he played domestic cricket and faced financial struggles initially.
In 2014, Delhi Daredevils signed him as a replacement for Nathan Coulter-Nile.
He celebrates wickets by running with his arms outstretched, a unique gesture.
Despite going unsold in the 2017 IPL Auction, he joined Rising Pune Supergiants as a replacement for Mitchell Marsh.
