He began his sports journey at the CSKA sports school at four years old.
In May 2003, he had his Russian Premier League debut against Krylia Sovetov Samara, making a critical last-minute penalty save to secure victory and earning the Player of the Match title.
Igor became the youngest goalkeeper in Russian history when he first joined the Russian National Team in 2004.
During the 2006–07 UEFA Champions League, he set a record by going 362 minutes without letting in a goal.
He showcased his talent by playing every game for Russia in the UEFA Euro 2008, leading his team to the tournament's semi-finals.
