Controversies	In 2017, Jharkhand CM Raghubar Das had invited Hemant to the "Jharkhand Global Investor Summit (GIS)." However, Hemant declined the invitation saying- "The summit is a 'Maha Chintan Shivir' of land grabbers and it is being organised to loot the land of Adivasis, Moolvasis and the farmers of the state." On 25 August 2022, the Election Commission (EC) recommended the disqualification of Chief Minister Hemant Soren as MLA under the Representation of the People Act, 1951 after he was found guilty of misusing his position to allot a stone mining lease to himself; Soren also heads the state’s mining department. On 2 November 2022, the ED summoned him in a money laundering case related to alleged illegal mining in Jharkhand. On 29 January 2024, the ED seized a huge amount of cash from Soren's residence in Delhi during a ₹600 crore land fraud investigation. Previously, Soren had avoided multiple ED summons, which led to this search operation. After briefly going missing, he was found in Jharkhand. Soren termed the accusations a political attack and planned to challenge them in court. On 31 January 2024, he was arrested by the ED, becoming the third Jharkhand Chief Minister to be arrested after his father, Shibu Soren, and Madhu Koda; he was interrogated by the ED for nearly seven hours before the arrest. On 5 April 2024, the ED named Hemant Soren, revenue officer Bhanu Pratap Prasad, and two other government employees as accused in its charge sheet. On 22 May 2024, he withdrew his petition before the Supreme Court seeking interim bail and quashing of arrest. On 28 June 2024, the Jharkhand High Court granted him bail.

Political Journey	Contested the 2005 Jharkhand Assembly Elections, but he lost to Stephen Marandi. On 24 June 2009, he was elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha. On 4 January 2010, he resigned from the Rajya Sabha after being elected as an MLA from Jharkhand's Dumka constituency. In 2009, he was named as the working president of the JMM. On 11 September 2010, he was appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister of Jharkhand. On 13 July 2013, he was appointed as the 5th Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
