Some Lesser Known Facts

Hemant Karkare was the ATS Chief of Maharashtra who lost his life in the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
As a child, Hemant once got locked in a library while engrossed in reading books at the Ramkrishna Math Library in Nagpur.
Hemant Karkare had a passion for wood carving, as shared by his daughter Jui Karkare Navare.
After graduating in Mechanical Engineering, Hemant worked at National Productivity Council and later pursued the civil services examination.
Hemant Karkare spent nine years in Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and served in Indian missions abroad before joining the Indian Police Service in 1982.
Former RAW chief AS Dulat mentioned that Hemant Karkare's intelligence work in Mumbai helped track down the hijackers of Indian Airlines flight IC 814.
Apart from his police duties, Hemant Karkare also served the United Nations and spent six years in the Prime Minister's Office.

During dinner with his family, Hemant received a call about the gunfire at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in South Mumbai on the tragic night.
Upon reaching the station, Hemant found an empty platform and realized the extent of the coordinated attacks in Mumbai.
Accompanied by two officers and a constable, Hemant headed towards the site near Cama & Albless Hospital, seeking reinforcements he didn't receive.
