Some Lesser Known Facts

He excelled academically in school and was admired by his teachers for his sincerity and studious nature.
During college, he was influenced by the socialist leader Jayaprakash Narayan and actively participated in the JP Movement of 1974, even dropping his surname 'Narayan.'
In 1977, he started his journalism career as a trainee at the Times Of India and later worked with the 'Dharmyug magazine' in Mumbai.
From 1981 to 1984, he worked at the Bank Of India before becoming an assistant editor at the 'Ravivar' magazine of Amrit Bazar Patrika till 1989.
He began his career with a salary of ₹500/month as he shared in an interview later.
In 1990, he became an additional media advisor to Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar.
For over 25 years, he served as the editor of "Prabhat Khabar" and launched new editions in Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.
Nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 2014 by JDU's Nitish Kumar, he wasn't a primary member of the party before.
After being elected, he adopted Bahuaara village in Rohtas and made significant contributions.
He is the first Janata Dal MP to be elected Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, defeating Congress Party's B. K. Hariprasad in 2018 with 125 votes to Hariprasad's 105.
