| During his time in Patiala, he met Harpal Tivana and began practicing theatre with him. |
| After spending about 5 years in Patiala, Girija moved to Delhi and later to Mumbai to pursue theatre. |
| In 1988, he made his acting debut in the TV series "Mahabharat," portraying the character of 'Dhritrashtra.' |
| Girija Shankar was unaware of the role he landed until he was cast as Dhritrashtra. |
| To prepare for his role as the blind character Dhritrashtra, Shankar visited blind schools for extended periods. |
| He has appeared in various movies and television series. |
| Shankar also worked in Hollywood productions after his time in Bollywood. |
| In 2006, he directed the English film "Banana Brothers." |
| Later on, he relocated to the United States with his family and settled there permanently. |
