Girija Shankar was born in Patiala to a middle-class family. |
He dreamt of joining the airforce since childhood. |
Despite attempting the airforce entrance test, he was unable to qualify due to his age. |
Following his graduation, Girija aimed to enroll in the National School of Drama in Delhi but couldn't due to personal reasons. |
He then opted to learn acting at an institute in Patiala. |
During his time in Patiala, he met Harpal Tivana and began practicing theatre with him. |
After spending about 5 years in Patiala, Girija moved to Delhi and later to Mumbai to pursue theatre. |
In 1988, he made his acting debut in the TV series "Mahabharat," portraying the character of 'Dhritrashtra.' |
Girija Shankar was unaware of the role he landed until he was cast as Dhritrashtra. |
To prepare for his role as the blind character Dhritrashtra, Shankar visited blind schools for extended periods. |
He has appeared in various movies and television series. |
Shankar also worked in Hollywood productions after his time in Bollywood. |
In 2006, he directed the English film "Banana Brothers." |
Later on, he relocated to the United States with his family and settled there permanently. |
