Dipa Karmakar won a bronze medal in Gymnastics at an international event. She was the third woman to successfully land the Produnova vault in 2014. Dipa started practicing gymnastics at the age of 6. She learned the basics at Vivekananda Byamagar in Tripura. Dipa's first national success was in 2008 when she won the Junior Nationals. She participated in the 2010 Commonwealth Games. In the 2011 National Games of India, Dipa won multiple gold medals. She achieved more success in the 2014 Commonwealth Games and Asian Championships. Dipa qualified for the finals at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in 2015. She became the first Indian female gymnast to qualify for the Olympic vault event in 2016. Dipa returned a luxury car due to poor road conditions in her hometown. In 2017, she had knee surgery and missed the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Dipa won a gold medal at the 2018 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup. She credits her coach Bisweshwar Nandi for her skills. Her father Dulal Karmakar is a former athlete. Dipa was honoured with a D.Litt. degree in 2017. She was named in Forbes' list of super achievers under 30. A special cover was unveiled on her by the Department of Post in 2017. In 2019, Sachin Tendulkar launched her autobiography. Dipa was selected as a Barbie Role Model in 2019. She holds religious events at her home. Nadia Comăneci is her role model.
