Dalip was actively involved in sports like cricket, hockey, and football during his school days. He also participated in debates and dramas.
He began his studies at Aligarh Muslim University but later moved to Mumbai with his family and completed his education at St. Xavier’s College.
During his college years in Mumbai, he received acting training from Alyque and Pearl Padamsee through a theater group.
He gained recognition for his roles in famous plays and theater musicals such as 'Godspell', 'A Streetcar Named Desire', and 'Bombay Dreams'.
In 1974, Dalip got his first opportunity in Bollywood with the film 'Ankur'.
By 2017, he had acted in more than 100 Bollywood films.
In 1969, Dalip achieved a unique feat by winning the prestigious ‘Kendall Cup’ thrice for his roles in various plays.
