Bomman is an Indian mahout employed by the forest department of Tamil Nadu.
He gained attention for his role in the documentary film "The Elephant Whisperers" that won an Oscar in 2023.
Bomman started working with the forest department in 1984 and has rescued many distressed elephants at the Theppakadu Elephant Camp.
In May 2017, he adopted a 3-month-old elephant calf named Raghu, whose mother died from electrocution near the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve.
Alongside Raghu, Bomman rescued a female elephant calf named Bommi at the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve and raised her in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve.
Bomman appeared in the documentary "The Elephant Whisperers" in 2017, which was released on Netflix in December 2022.
The documentary won an Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Film in March 2023.
Following a court order, Bomman was posted to the Palacode forest to find and rescue two elephant calves in 2023.
