Some Lesser Known Facts

He was born and raised in Uttarapara, a town on the banks of the Hooghly river, in a Bengali family with deep musical roots.
His grandfather, Banikantha NC Baral, a Bengali composer and vocalist, greatly influenced his musical journey, teaching him all the basics of music.
While attending Don Bosco Liluah School, he achieved titles such as ‘All India Don Bosco Music Champion’ (1983) and ‘The Most Enriching Talent’ (1985).
He excelled in various inter-school and inter-college music competitions, and also showcased his talent on Doordarshan and All India Radio.
After graduating college in 1991, he briefly worked at Standard Chartered Bank before moving to Mumbai in 1992 to pursue a career in Bollywood.
Upon arriving in Mumbai, he got his first break from Kalyanji (Music Director & Composer) and began performing in international live shows, prompting him to change his name to Babul Supriyo from Babul Supriyo Baral.
He toured the USA and Canada with Amitabh Bachchan in 1993 for live shows, followed by tours with Asha Bhosle in the US in 1997 and 1999.
His breakthrough as a playback singer came in 2000 with the song “Dil Ne Dil Ko Pukara” from Hrithik Roshan's debut film “Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai.”
Some of his popular Bollywood hits include ‘Hum Tum’ (Hum Tum), ‘Pari Pari Hai Ek Pari’ (Hungama), ‘Chanda Chamke’ (Fanna), among others.
Having deep admiration for Narendra Modi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he joined BJP in March 2014 and became a Member of Parliament.
In a subsequent interview, he shared the light-hearted story of how he ventured into politics and eventually became the Union Minister of State in 2014, being the youngest minister in the Narendra Modi Cabinet.
