Abdul Malik developed a passion for cricket during his childhood.
In his first-class debut on 26 October 2017, he scored 2 runs in the first innings and was dismissed for a duck in the second.
He made his List-A debut on 10 September 2019, scoring 12 runs for Amo Region.
In his T20 debut on 13 October 2019 for Kabul Eagles, he scored 11 runs off 18 balls.
During his first Test match for Afghanistan, he was dismissed for a duck in both innings, making him the first Afghan player to achieve this in a Test debut.
He was appointed captain of the Amo team in November 2022, leading them to their first Ahmad Shah Abdali four-day tournament cup win.
In the 2023 Ahmad Shah Abdali tournament, he was the top run-scorer with 621 runs, including 2 centuries and 2 half-centuries.
