Faiz Hameed is regarded as a close associate of Pakistan's former Prime Minister, Imran Khan.
He served as the chief spymaster of Pakistan and is known as the 'Butcher of Panjshir' for his support of the Taliban.
In 2020, he played a crucial role as one of the chief mediators in the peace agreement between the United States and the Taliban.
He had several meetings with Ajeet Doval, India's National Security Advisor, leading to the renewal of the ceasefire pledge on the Line of Control.
In 2021, he was involved in a controversial incident where his wife shot him after discovering him with another woman.
He faced accusations of acting beyond his authority during the Faizabad sit-in in 2017 and allegedly rigging elections in 2018.
He retired from the Pakistan Army four months before the end of his service on 10 December 2022, following the appointment of General Asim Munir.
