  • 2002: Contested and won the Punjab Legislative Assembly Elections from the Verka constituency.

Raj Kumar Verka is from a Valmiki community family in Amritsar, Punjab.
In 2016, he was among 42 MLAs from the Indian National Congress who resigned protesting the Supreme Court's decision concerning the Sutlej Yamuna link canal.
He was appointed as the Chairman of Punjab State Warehousing Corporation in 2018.
In October 2023, he quit the BJP and rejoined the Indian National Congress, mentioning his past mistake of leaving the party.
In November 2023, he was appointed by AICC as an observer for the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Elections.
He has served as Parliamentary Secretary of the Punjab Government and General Secretary of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee.
Raj Kumar Verka has also served as the Vice-Chairman of the National Commission for SC/ST and held positions related to the welfare of SCs/BCs in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.
