Surya Mohan Kulshreshtha is a veteran Indian actor, director, and playwright with a significant body of work in films and theatrical productions.
He made his debut on stage during his childhood as a deity on Janmashtami.
In 1975, he joined the first batch of students specializing in direction at the Bhartendu Natya Academi (BNA) in Lucknow.
Before his theatre career, he worked on the radio show 'Hawa Mahal' and later joined Life India Corporation (LIC) in 1972.
He became part of the Meghdoot Theatre group in Lucknow in 1974.
In 1976, he directed his first play titled 'Andhere Mein' as a student, based on Gajanan Madhav Muktibodh’s book.
Surya began working with the Indian Peoples Theatre Association (IPTA) in 1985.
His direction of the play 'Ram Leela' in 1985 was well-received at the National Festival of Sangeet Natak Academy in Delhi.
