Shamanur Shivashankarappa is a scholar, entrepreneur, humanitarian, and member of the Indian National Congress political party.
He has dedicated over 60 years to societal welfare and has been active in politics for more than 30 years.
In 1970, he co-produced the Kannada film named Boregowda Bangalorige Banda.
Since the 1980s, he has served as the Treasurer of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) for over three decades.
He represented the Davanagere constituency in the Lok Sabha as a Member of Parliament from 1998 to 1999.
From 2013 to 2016, he served as the Minister of Horticulture and Agricultural Marketing.
Since 2004, he has been a member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, representing the Davangere South constituency.
He is currently the President of the All India Veerashaiva Mahasabha.
He is the owner of the Shamanur Group, a conglomerate specializing in sugar and alcoholic beverages production.
In 2012, he founded the Dr. Shamanur Shivashankarappa Janakalyna Trust to provide scholarships to economically disadvantaged students.
He established the Bapuji Cooperative Bank in 1986.
