During his Diploma in Engineering studies, he was introduced to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) by a friend.
Before entering politics, he worked as an engineer in private companies.

His wife, Renu Sharma, is a Hindu, and they had an inter-caste marriage.
