Rakesh Pal became the 25th Director General (DG) of the Indian Coast Guard in July 2023.
He received military training at the Indian Naval Academy (INA) in Ezhimala, Kerala.
Starting as an Assistant Commandant (AC) in January 1989, he is the first gunner in the ICG's history.
He underwent Gunnery & Weapons Systems training at the Indian Naval School Dronacharya in Kochi, Kerala.
He also completed an Electro-Optics Fire Control Solution course in the United Kingdom.
Rakesh Pal oversaw operations on various ICG ships and Coast Guard bases in Gujarat.
In February 2022, he was appointed as Additional Director General (ADG) at the Coast Guard Headquarters in New Delhi.
Under his leadership, the ICG handled operations capturing illegal substances, conducting rescue missions, and partnering with foreign coast guards.
